Maybe they earn too little, work too much, too hard, in an unpleasant place or company. But what's certain is that there are many who regret the profession they've chosen or the workplace they find themselves in.
I don't have the solution for all these inconveniences and discontentment, but I discovered the secret of earning enough.
Proverbs 3:13-15 says:
Happy is the man who finds wisdom,
And the man who gains understanding;
For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver,
And her gain than fine gold.
She is more precious than rubies,
And all the things you may desire cannot compare with her.
Do you believe this?
The wisest man to ever live, King Solomon, said it. Who can you trust of not the one who experienced such a fullness of wisdom?
But you probably noticed that these profits, this gain is for the ones who find wisdom. The thought scares me at first sight, because it seems like it's something that's out of my control. What if I look for wisdom, but not find it?
The key is found in an earlier passage from Proverbs chapter 2, verses 2-6:
...you incline your ear to wisdom,
And apply your heart to understanding;
Don't disregard it!
Yes, if you cry out for discernment,
And lift up your voice for understanding,
But ask for it.
If you seek her as silver,
And search for her as for hidden treasures;
Cherish it, go after it as after riches.
Then you will understand the fear of the Lord,
And find the knowledge of God.
For the Lord gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;
You will receive it from Him. That's where you need to look for wisdom.
James confirms this in his book, in chapter 1 verse 5:
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God...
But what he says next is an encouraging response to an unspoken fear some of us may have: but will God give me wisdom?
Verse 5 goes on like this: who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
Ask for it with confidence! Seek wisdom as gold, and you will earn more than if you had many riches.
