The consequences of fiction

If you've been raised in a Christian family, chances are you haven't seen some of the movies or read some of the books that were in vogue at the time. The main argument was probably that they contained witchcraft or magic (I'm not talking about movies or books inappropriate for children because of violence, profanity or sensuality, which are widely accepted as not being suitable for kids).

I used to be a bit revolted as a child. Of course I wasn't going to believe that those fairies are real. Yeah, I was smart enough to know that there are no superpowers or dragons or...

But the trap is much deeper. We get used to not believing in supernatural things. We train our minds to only trust what our eyes have seen and what our hands have touched.

And we find ourselves doubting The Great Controversy. Can the sky possibly roll up as a scroll? Is there really going to be a new Earth? It sounds a bit sci-fi.

"It is Satan's work to fill men's hearts with doubt." Ellen G. White, Desire of Ages, page 356.

Do not open the door of your heart for doubt. Let's pray together with the psalmist: "Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, And revive me in Your way." Psalm 119:37
